Caskets and Urns

From our family to yours.

Trappist Caskets, in partnership with the University of Notre Dame, now offers custom-designed Notre Dame caskets and urns in addition to our standard line of individuallys crafted caskets and urns. All of our caskets and urns ship within 24 hours of the order to your funeral home or Cedar Grove Cemetery.

As a work of the monks of New Melleray Abbey, Trappist Caskets are built on a long tradition that combines a reverence for nature with a preference of old-world craftsmanship. The self-sufficient Trappist tradition calls for each monk to labor quietly with his hands in support of his life of prayer and simplicity. The result - expertly crafted caskets and urns made from the finest walnut and oak available, much of it coming from the monastery's own award-winning forest.

God is in the details.

Each Trappist casket and urn is meticulously crafted the old-fashioned way - emphasizing attention to detail over the speed of mass production. Not a high-volume venture, Trappist Caskets reflect the values of the men who make them: integrity, honesty, and devotion to a high calling.

When your loved one is put to rest in a Trappist casket or urn, the monks will say a mass in their honor, and a tree will be planted in New Melleray's sustainable forest as a living memorial. Each casket and urn is blessed by a monk prior to delivery.

Peace of mind.

If an immediate need develops, call us and we will ship a casket or urn for next-day delivery anywhere in the U.S. If you prefer to plan ahead, contact us for our pre-need application. Our pre-need plan insulates the purchaser from any future product price increases.

Should you or your loved one choose to be interred on the University of Notre Dame campus, in the Our Lady of Sorrows at Cedar Grove Cemetery mausoleum complex, our caskets and urns are designed and sized to fit any crypt or niche.

All caskets, urns, and register books come with an engraved seal authorized by the University of Notre Dame. Included in the purchase of a casket or urn is a complimentary Guest Register Book and four family keepsake crosses.

The keepsake crosses, inscribed with the name of the deceased and their birth and death dates, are in addition to the removable cross that comes on the lid of each casket and urn. These products are available exclusively to Notre Dame alumni and their family members.

The natural, earth-friendly choice.

We preserve the sanctity of nature by being responsible stewards of God's gifts. Our award-winning forest provides us with an abundance of premium woods, which we craft into elegantly designed caskets and urns.

In an effort to preserve our forest, we manage our wood-lands to be a sustainable, healthy eco-system. That's why we plant far more trees than we will ever harvest.
