Eligibility & Purchasing
In-Ground Burial
Persons eligible to purchase in-ground grave spaces include:
- Full-time University of Notre Dame faculty or staff
- Faculty or staff retired from Notre Dame:
- At age 55 with at least 15 years of service to the University
- At age 62 with at least 10 years of service to the University
- At age 65 with at least 5 years of service to the University
There is a limit to the total graves allowed for purchase by each eligible applicant. To learn more or to schedule a private tour of the cemetery, contact Leon Glon, Cedar Grove Cemetery Sexton, at 574.631.7646.
Above-Ground Burial
A University initiative called “Coming Home” has expand burial options to include above-ground interment as full-body and cremated remains. Persons eligible to purchase above-ground spaces include:
- University of Notre Dame alumni or their surviving spouse
- Parishioners of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame, with at least 5 years active parishioner status
- Full-time University of Notre Dame staff
- Full-time University of Notre Dame faculty
- Staff or faculty retired from ND at age 55 with at least 15 years at ND
- Staff or faculty retired from ND at age 62 with at least 10 years at ND
- Staff or faculty retired from ND at age 65 with at least 5 years at ND
(Note: Applicant’s employment, alumni or parishioner status is verified by Human Resources, the Alumni Association, or Sacred Heart Parish as applicable.)
Each eligible participant may purchase up to four (4) above-ground interments. The interments may be as follows:

| Two (2) single crypts and one (1) companion crypt |
Two (2) single niches and one (1) companion niche |
| Two (2) companion crypts | Two (2) companion niches |
A combination of crypts and niches may be purchased, not to exceed interment space for four (4) individuals.
